to measure cover, botanical composition and (with height) biomass; the definition of seasonal benchmark values
for biomass and growth expected from healthy legume leys; |
minimum of 30% legume, or 20% legume ground cover, must be present;
confirmation of a striking improvement in legume botanical composition after winter cleaning, a benefit that produced 16% more grain yield in a crop of wheat after pasture.
John Paul who is currently working as a Technical Officer on the lucerne breeding program conducted by NSW Agriculture at Tamworth. Professor Ted Wolfe has established linkages with GRDC's TOPCROP project and NSW Agriculture's PROGRAZE program as a prelude to incorporating the results of the project into protocols for monitoring pastures in farming and grazing districts.
