Duration:
1998

Project Summary:
For some years now, University of Canberra has been providing electronic support for student group project work through asynchronous groupware such as Lotus Notes.

During Semester 1, 1998, Masters' degree students in the University of Canberra unit Usability Testing and the Information Systems Design Process were asked to evaluate two currently "free" synchronous groupware environments to see if they would be of use to student project teams, for example in the conduct of meetings.

Two environments were evaluated: AussieMOO and Microsoft NetMeeting. Two groups evaluated each environment and booklet was produced. The AussieMOO environment was provided by Charles Sturt University as part of their participation in the CUTSD grant Building a Teaching and Learning Community in the Information Systems Discipline in which University of Canberra, Charles Sturt University, University of Technology, Sydney and University of New South Wales are participating organisations.
